WineSmith 2005 Cabernet Franc
Because of our “ Because of our “day job day job day job” as winemaking consultants, we decided in 1993 to establishthis challenging grape as our signature varietal. It’s a wine which requires skill to do well, and is capable of great depth when properly made. Since then, we have developed the reputation for some of California’s best Cab Francs. This is perhaps our finest effort to date.

2005 Pinot Noir (Second Fiddle)
Fiddlestix is a magical playground of differing sites and clonal selections, owned and farmed by Kathy Joseph. I adore her wines and have wished for many years to do a Pinot project with her, having come to know her as my former UC Davis study partner who then went on to found the wonderful Fiddlehead Cellars brand in the early 1980’s. Later, she planted the Fiddlestix Vineyard in the famed Santa Rita Hills appellation of the cool central coast with a mélange of sexy scions.
2005 Faux Chablis (Student Vineyard)
For those who have followed the Napa Valley College Student Vineyard Faux Chablis series since 2001, this wine will make perfect sense.
The first thing you will notice is its color, which is very dark amber with a touch of peach, much like the fire wines Georgian Rkatsitelli sometimes produces. One can be forgiven for imagining this as oxidation, but it is not. It is simply incredible density.
The making of Crucible is our pride and joy, truly a labor of love. Its tiny 90 case production is the entire focus of our winemaking team during harvest. Picked at the peak of phenolic ripeness, these small berries yield tiny volumes of intensely tannic juice packed with black fruit aromas. Crucible’s profound essence of rich blueberries is a typical expression of the Coombsville district surrounding Napa town.
